You should never have to pay for debt advice. These UK services are free and confidential.
Free services
StepChange: 0800 138 1111. National Debtline: 0808 808 4000. Business Debtline, for the self-employed: 0800 197 6026. Citizens Advice, online or in person. Advice NI in Northern Ireland: 0800 915 4604.
Watch out
Be wary of companies that advertise debt help and charge fees. Free services can set up the same solutions, such as debt management plans, without charging you.
Loan sharks
If someone is lending money without being authorised, threatening you, or holding your bank card, contact Stop Loan Sharks on 0300 555 2222. You won't get into trouble for borrowing from one.
